Garfield Minus Garfield - A Great Concept

Read about this just yesterday. This guy has done something truly unique and amazing. He's Dan Walsh and he has taken our dear fat hungry self-centered cat out of the comic strips. Yes, he takes a strip a day, the same Garfield strips created by Jim Davis, and literally erases away Garfield and his thought bubbles.

What is left now, is just Jon Arbuckle and whatever he talks to Garfield (to himself actually!). And here is a great new comic strip that "reveals the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb."

Walsh says the idea came to him when he “looked at Jon and laughed at his crazy antics" and like a whole bunch of people, thought "he’s just like me."

The icing on the cake comes from none other than Jim Davis himself. Instead of suing the bright chap, Jim has thanked Dan for "enabling him to see another side of Garfield."

And now the big news... Garfield Minus Garfield is soon going to be published in book form. It will be published by Ballantine Books, the same publication that has published Jim Davis's Garfield books. Awaiting the book release.
